Maybe I'm doing something wrong, I dunno. Also, when minimizing the app, it takes about half a second for the window underneath to draw over what the GL window had displayed, but only in some places. For example, redrawing in other apps is sometimes very slow, even though the GL app is running at basically 0% CPU usage. Here are some reasons.1) I get strange graphics behavior on my desktop when running the app. Hmm, now I'm second guessing the use of the SWT OpenGL. Now I just gotta start extracting tiles from the real game and get to work on my tile engine! so this is fantastic! - View image here: -To show the 1-to-1 mapping to GL, here's some of the code that sets up the view.įloat aspect = (float) width / (float) height I love Java, and I also really like OpenGL. So, I wrote a simple test program to draw a bunch of tiles (textured polygons in this case) on a window.- View image here: - The speed was much faster using GL than plain old 2D SWT graphics. The code is basically a straight pass-through to GL.I also discovered that Elevator Action seems to use 8x8 pixel tiles. The support in SWT is "experimental" but seems pretty stable and full-featured to me. I've used OpenGL before, but only in C++. However, I want to log all my work, so here's what I have gotten done.I've been spending time trying to decide what language/libraries to use. Nothing too exciting yet, haven't had a whole lot of free time. so hopefully I'll have something to show you guys soon! - View image here: -Fogle Of course, it's only going to be 2-D, and not much of a performance hog, so that might be overkill anyway.Anyway, I'll probably start coding this week. So I might try to use that, but I'm really not sure yet. View image here: - I just can't get away from it! However, it looks like SWT has OpenGL support, which I've been playing with. I thought about trying a different language/platform, but it looks like I'm going to be using Java with SWT again. So this should be pretty interesting!I haven't actually started yet. I'm going to log my progress in this thread, just as I did for the Pac-Man game! From my initial planning, it looks like Elevator Action will be a bit harder than Pac-Man was. And we picked Elevator Action, released in 1983! Here are some links about the original game: course, I will be participating and making my own clone of this game. For reference, here's the thread:, me and some co-workers decided we should have a contest to see who could make the best reproduction of a classic arcade game. Howdy! As many of you know, I wrote a Pac-Man clone back in January - just for fun.
